Evaluation – Magazine Front CoverFitness For Purpose – I think that my front cover does a good job. I think that this cover is slightly complex, where as most bmx magazines are very simple. Although I tried to keep things simple, I think I could have simplified some of the things like the effect on the font, and the picture. I made some changes to my front cover, and the client feedback told me to do so. One of the clients said I could have put something to persuade the audience to buy the magazine more, so I then put a sticker effect on the cover, and ontop of the sticker, I put ‘ FREE STICKER PACK’. It looks quite eye catching as the font is black on a yellow background.
Target audience - This magazine is mainly aimed at teenagers to early 30’s. I think ive reached my audience because in the spread I used things that would be relevant to this age group. In the front cover I included a prize, saying ‘win a united squad frame’ which I’m sure many bmx’ers would love to get their hands on, and I also included other persuasive texts, like ‘trick tutorials’.
Format - The size of the front cover is 112x114.5, I chose this because it’s the standard magazine size (mojo) as I planned to keep things simple.
Typeface – Like I mentioned, I planned to keep it very simple. I related to other products similar to mine, like ‘ride bmx’ and ’mbuk‘. In these magazines I noticed that the font, and size of the font is fairly simple, they either used times new roman, or Arial, in a size 12 font.
The Grid - My use of columns are fairly complex, I didn’t use illustrator to create any of my products, I have always used Photoshop and I have had a bit of experience using the program. What I did was I put the grids wherever I wanted the text, and images to go so everything was nice and evenly spaced out, or tucked together. This was why I knew where everything was, and not just randomly placed somewhere on the cover.
